Summer School 2014
June 15 - August 8
San Francisco Bay Area

Applications due Monday, March 24.

SOUL Summer School is an intensive 8-week introduction to community organizing and social change, designed for emerging organizers with at least one year of experience. SOUL is dedicated to building the skills of young women, young people of color, working class, and queer people as the next generation of leaders for the social justice movement.

SOUL Summer School has three main components:
    1. ORGANIZING SKILLS TRAINING so you can build the concrete tools you'll need to organize for power in our communities. SOUL's trainings will help you develop essential skills in outreach, recruitment, campaign strategy and tactics.
    2. POLITICAL EDUCATION to deepen analysis of our political and economic context, especially the issues impacting working-class communities and communities of color. We'll also look at current and historic fights to win justice for our people, and develop a vision for building our movement today.
    3. INTERNSHIPS to practice your skills on the ground. You will have the opportunity to work closely with an organization that builds power locally through campaigns and base-building work.

SOUL Summer School is a full-time commitment. Participants can expect to spend 10 hours a week in political education and skills trainings, and at least 30 hours a week in the organizing internship. You will not have time for another job or summer classes. SOUL will provide a need-based stipend—up to $2000—for living costs during the summer.
